1. Service Introduction

iAM Smart is an enhanced version of the national-level digital identity service platform provided free of charge by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for residents holding a Hong Kong identity card (aged 11 or above). iAM Smart supports digital signature operations under the legal framework of the Electronic Transactions Ordinance (Cap 553), enabling a legal and compliant online signing process.

3. Signature Level Support

4. Dependency Requirements

To use the digital signature function, users need to meet the following conditions:

• Possess a new smart Hong Kong identity card (issued on or after November 26, 2018);

• Use a smartphone with NFC functionality, running Android 12.0 or above, or iOS 14.0 or above (e.g., iPhone 8 or newer models);

• Upgrade to iAM Smart App version 3.5.0 or above, or visit self-service registration kiosks, registration service counters, or seek assistance from mobile registration teams for the upgrade.

5. Compliance Explanation

The digital signature capability of iAM Smart is supported by the Electronic Transactions Ordinance, which legally has the same effect as traditional handwritten signatures.
