Estonian ID-Card is a smart card issued by the Estonian government, with an embedded chip containing a signature certificate, which can be used to generate a qualified electronic signature (QES) that complies with regulatory requirements. Estonian ID-Card is available to all residents of Estonia (citizens and legal residents) and is widely used in Estonia’s national electronic identity system. This system is a core component of Estonia’s “e-Identity” system.
